BUSINESS LIFE IN SØNDERBORG
With growth, innovation and education as the key words, the companies in the Sønderborg area belong to the professional elite. The municipality does not belong to the largest in the country, but Sønderborg comes third on the list of municipalities with the largest number of inhabitants working in creative occupations.
GREEN TECHNOLOGY
The area’s professional competences belong to the elite in especially two fields: not only in Denmark, but all over Europe, the area’s companies lead in electronics and sustainable energy. This was evident when Project Zero was awarded the prestigious prize the Sustainable Energy Communities Award by the EU Commission in 2010.
In addition to Project Zero, the Sønderborg area is home to the nationwide collaboration about energy, Lean Energy Cluster. Initiatives like these foster trends and ideas in the area and create a fertile soil for development of new solutions and products in the field of energy.
UNDER THE SAME ROOF
You might say we have everything under the same roof in Sønderborg. Alsion houses University of Southern Denmark Sønderborg, and in close collaboration with local companies, the university runs Master of Science in Engineering programmes and programmes for PhD students in the fields of mechatronics, business and innovation.
Moreover, many of Sønderborg’s leading knowledge-based companies reside in the research park Forskerparken, which is also located at Alsion. Here you will find the Mechatronics Cluster, Køle Company Centre, and Alsion (KVCA) together with the Mads Clausen Institute and Project Zero. This makes possible close collaboration between companies and students and allows the present and the future to exist side by side in the same place.
