Entertainment

There’s plenty to do and see in the area around Sonderborg. Several big acts have already performed on our stages all around the city. Have a look at the events calendar for the next concert or performance.

Often you will find that the bars and café’s in the city centre will have live acts on at the weekends.

A few times a year, there are city wide events where the whole city participates. The biggest on e being Ringridning.

Libraries (Public)

Sønderborg’s main library (Biblioteket) is situated near the bus station in the city centre.For opening hours please see Library on this site under ‘Useful addresses’.

Churches

The official Danish State Church (Folkekirken) is protestant (Evangelical Lutheran) but Denmark has complete freedom of religion. In Sønderborg several other Christian denominations as well as other religious societies are represented. A list of churches can be found in the green ‘Mostrup’ directory in the yellow pages under ‘Kirker’ and ‘Kirker og…’.

Danish Radio and Television

The Danish Radio news in English can be heard on MW 1062 kHz Monday – Friday at 8:40, 11:00, 17:10 and 22:00. The Danish national television has four channels: DR1 and DR2 (non-commercial) and TV2 and TV2 Zulu (commercial). In addition to the four national channels, satellite or cable TV is also available in most areas. Cable TV is often provided in student residences. Please note that if you decide to equip your room with television/radio you must pay a licence fee. Courses in Danish in Denmark

Danish language courses for new residents are offered during the year and special summer courses are available in the summer holidays. The courses are offered by the local municipalitiy, private organizations and universities. These courses are subsidized by the municipality and students pay only a moderate fee.
